With almost a third claiming they wouldn’t feel comfortable negotiating pay with a new employer Posted in News archive on 18 Mar 2019 Company Profile CV-Library.co.uk View profile » A study conducted by CV-Library , the UK’s leading independent job board, has discovered that nearly half (45.3%) of Brits don’t feel comfortable asking their existing employer for a pay rise. What’s more, almost a third (31.7%) claimed that they wouldn’t feel comfortable negotiating pay with a new employer. The survey of 1,200 British professionals reveals that almost two-thirds (61.3%) of Brits haven’t received a pay rise in the last 12-18 months. Of those who did, four in ten (38.6%) received an increase of up to 2%. Below, CV-Library reveals the top ten sectors where Brits are least likely to negotiate on salary: Social care (59.5%) Hospitality (58.3%) Catering (54.1%) Retail (50.2%) Manufacturing (48.8%) Education (43.8%) Automotive (42.9%) Property (42.1%) Engineering (38.5%) Distribution (37.8%) Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library , comments: “While this may be music to cost-conscious employers’ ears, we can’t ignore the fact that pay is a huge influencing factor in people’s decisions to join a company and stay with them. With Brexit causing many Brits to defer any plans they might have had to change up their careers, employers need to consider how a competitive salary will help them to attract home-grown talent. “Indeed, these top sectors where professionals are least likely to negotiate on pay with an employer are also some of those most likely to be affected by Brexit. For businesses to engage and retain the best candidates, they need to not only offe r a fair salary, but also put in place annual pay reviews to ensure that wages rise in line with inflation and performance.” Of the 49.6% of Brits who have negotiated on a job offer, the majority (79.5%) claimed to have negotiated on salary. Other popular aspects which Brits negotiated on included working hours (46.9%) and flexible working (29.1%). Biggins concludes: “Whilst salary is undeniably a big pull-factor, there’s increasing pressure on businesses to offer more than just this. Our survey gives a good indication of what candidates are after in the current job market. However, part of being a top employer is listening to employees and showing that you understand their needs. If you can nail this, then you’ll be on the right path to filling your job roles.”

To begin with, you have to know what it is that they call semiotics. Posted in News archive on 18 Mar 2019 Moreover, we will not assume that everyone knows what it is. With that being said, semiotics is the study of signs and symbols. That brings us to the next question as to how signs and marketing interconnect. We do understand that we use words as human beings to communicate and convey a message. Moreover, verbal communication is one of the elements in semiotics. In addition, generally, when we are talking about semiotics we are talking about the art of communicating a message or what some would refer to as advertising. We would love to go into depth on the definition of semiotics because that is just the surface of what it is. However, that is not the core of this article. Let us get right into the significance of semiotics in marketing. Semiotics in Marketing In advertising your product, semiotics is crucial. Why we say so is because once the audience misinterprets a message, then there go your millions down the drain. If you want put across the message of real money best online casino gambling for instance. Make sure that you use the appropriate signs and symbols. Making sure that an expert deals with such issues is important. Whilst you might be encoding something else, the audience might decode it the wrong way. Which is why you should always make sure that both the encoding and decoding are in sync. There are many ways to send a message. This can be through signs, visuals, text, and iconic individuals just to name a few. For example, when you see doves then you automatically register that it means peace, love, and friendship just to name a few. Some might want to liken semiotics with metaphors because they are almost one in the same thing. Culture Importance of Semiotics It is essential that people also know that it is not a one size fits all scenario. The meaning differs according to society and place. In Australia thongs mean something else that is different, it means flip-flops or slippers, and in other parts of the world, thongs refer to an inner garment. At the end of the day, it is important that people be culture conscious. Link between sports betting and semiotics While some people can uncosnciusly tell us how and when to bet on sports or engage with online sports betting sportsbook , there is also a subconscious set of forces and needs that are at work below the surface. According to Rsginc, it’s important to uncover this hierarchy to ensure that the customer relationship is resonating on a deeper and more compelling level than just conscious thought. Psychoanalytic exploration can be a powerful approach to uncover these hierarchies. Semiotics can help us better understand the power of signs and symbols associated with the category and those in many cases are cues for subconscious factors.

The only way that can make creativity to be more fun is to provide simplicity to the craft. Posted in News archive on 18 Mar 2019 Sometimes it feels like a mysterious miracle but one thing you should keep at the back of your mind is to create a condition and invite it. There is always a way of producing simplicity in creativity. Sometimes we marvel at some of the art drawings we see but the trick there is that the artist finds their way to always be creative in their work. Above all, there are so many ways you can learn to be creative and you have to do your best to make it happen. It doesn’t matter which industry you at, whether is internet casinos , medical or entertainment industry, you can still excel. However, that is not all, you can read the following tips and have a clear insight on what to do. Creative requires you to Brainstorm One of the things you should do is to keep on brainstorming and always think of new ideas as you go about your day. Come up with a specific topic and make sure you come up with brilliant ideas. That alone can propel you to write good and amazing stories. The world does not want to hear friction rather they prefer heart-warming stories and it is your duty as a writer to give them that. Take Risks If you are a real money online pokies gambler, you know what risk-taking is all about. In order to win real money sometimes, you need to take a bit of risk and apply some real mojo in the work. The same thing applies to being a creative writer. The only way you can succeed in your creative writing is to give yourself the freedom to fail. You cannot be a creative genius when you keep yourself in the comfort zone. Write something that will go against the reader's views. That is what risk-taking is about. If you don't receive a certain response you were hoping for. Then you have to reshuffle your deck and make sure you give yourself a good hand next around.

Posted in News archive on 11 Mar 2019 The report, developed by workforce management expert Quinyx in collaboration with Development Economics and Censuswide, includes economic analysis of ONS data and findings from an employer sentiment survey of 1,008 senior decision makers in UK firms that hire blue-collar workers. It found that nearly half (49%) of UK employers struggle to recruit these workers, with the same percentage reporting challenges around retention. Issues with recruitment and retention were discovered to be most acute in industries such as hospitality, catering leisure and retail. In addition, larger businesses (those with a workforce of 250 to 500) are more likely to face challenges compared to smaller-sized businesses. Regionally, businesses in London and the East of England are most likely to struggle to recruit workers into manual or elementary service roles. The research also uncovered some key reasons why these recruitment and retention challenges exist. When asked to identify the key frustrations of their workforce, 33% of UK employers cited low pay as a major grievance, with 32% saying it’s the main reason employees quit. Similarly, a quarter (25%) quoted unsocial hours as significant problem, with 23% saying it’s the main reason they lose employees. A lack of career progression among manual and elementary service workers also causes employers to lose staff, with 22% saying it’s a notable grievance, and 24% citing it as main reason for their employees quitting. One fifth (19%) of employers also claimed lack of flexibility in the workplace as a major complaint among their workforce – with 17% saying it’s the main reason why workers quit their jobs. Indeed, despite reported increases in flexible working among manual or elementary service workers in recent years, there is more that needs to be done. Retention and recruitment are also having a huge impact on productivity. The study calculated that skills shortages – which come about as a by-product of poor retention and inability to recruit blue-collar workers – result in an average drop in business growth of 9%. This figure is marginally higher in healthcare, hospitality and logistics businesses (each 10%). Employers estimate that these skills shortages result in a 10% dip in productivity. Mansoor Malik, Managing Director UK & International, comments: “The UK’s manual and elementary service workers are a vital part of the economy. And, with Brexit threatening the inbound flow of skilled workers, it is crucial that employers ensure they’re doing all they can to attract, engage and retain their staff. ‘’With half of employers already struggling to recruit and retain, it’s clear that employers need to address these challenges sooner, rather than later. Whether this means offering greater flexibility or developing more attractive and formalised career paths, ensuring the workforce is skilled and robust is essential to future productivity and economic success.” The findings come at a time when UK employers are expressing growing concern around access to manual and elementary service workers post-Brexit. According to Quinyx’s research, business leaders working in organisations with a blue-collar workforce predict that they will lose 18% of that workforce as a result of Brexit, with over a fifth (22%) saying they expect to lose 31% or more. Particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in the workforce are logistics and healthcare businesses. Looking further ahead, many businesses are wary about talent pipelines post-Brexit. Nearly half (49%) of employers said that they expect Brexit to have a negative impact on their future recruitment of manual and elementary service workers – with 15% expecting it to be severe.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” Posted in News archive on 11 Mar 2019 Establishing a software development , pairing up with a fair amount of developers, testers, can be insanely tricky at times. I mean can a developer and QA have a healthy relationship? This is one of the hottest and the most emerging topic across the globe. Testers vs. Developers - Let’s delve into the details! Part of the problem is the process of web development itself. No kidding! Being conventional in nature, these methods continue to act as a disruptor. As a result, more and more companies are getting obsessed with DevOps practices. Where the difference lies? The aim of testers and developers is ultimately the same; it’s just that they do follow a different path to achieve the pre-determined goal. I personally find these two departments more like Tom and Jerry- can’t live with each other / can’t live without each other. More importantly, it doesn’t mean that a tester’s motto is to spoil the work done by developers. I mean result can be positive only when both the teams collaborate effectively. Let us understand their perspectives in depth. #1 Gathering requirements and analysis As the point implies, here the appropriate requirement is gathered from stakeholders; this basically includes suitable necessities of the application. The document is later on shared with both testing and development teams to know their point of views in detail. For example, if the end user asks to have a no special character in the input field. - Software Developer - Writes the code for inserting an input field by keeping a healthy check on what a user enters any special character. As a result, an error is thrown, or a proper error message is displayed. - Tester - Tester, on the other hand, will check the stated requirement and will keep multiple scenarios in mind such as: Special characters are included in the input box, what to do? Do you think it will display the same or a different message to the user? What if the user copies and pastes any combination of special characters and alphanumeric characters into the input box? #2 Application design After collecting data and doing adequate research, it’s time for developers to start their designing procedure on the particular app. This includes developers reviewing of the design documents before implementation. Testers from their understanding and creative thinking analyze all the possible scenarios for all new features, enhancements, integrations, UI update, anything mentioned in the requirement. They create test cases, sanity, and data so that when the application comes for testing, they are ready with their testing parameters. #3 Implementation phase: From a developer’s perspective, they are focused on building appropriate functionality that is “requirement.” For them, functionality that works perfectly and effectively matters the most. Whereas from the tester’s perspective , it is the exact opposite of a developer. When a developer focuses on implementing the functionality, testers apply all of their creativity to test the functionality. This means if a developer misunderstood the requirement and god forbid, if the testers apply, chances of failure in the application will increase. #4 System Testing Now it’s time for developers to upload the application to staging /QA environment featuring a defined set of functionalities that have been implemented by the developer in that particular sprint/release. As a result, software developers’ end up uploading an application with a notion that the functionality implemented is developed perfectly as per the requirements specified; they are just giving application to the testers to re-verify. For testers, apart from desired functionality, there are many other different ways an end-user can think to use a particular application. I am talking of the task the testers require using in their creative thinking and explore every possible scenario. #5 Maintenance phase Last but certainly not the least, the phase is all about checking the combined effort of Testers and developers. The final application after implementation is sent to the user to use it live. Luckily, if it is working as desired, then there is no problem. But in case, if there is any deviation, it again requires the combined effort of both testers and developers in the maintenance phase. It’s all about coming up with the best product. Best Way to Make Developer and QA Relationship Healthy Share your strategy with developers. Avoid considering that you will mark it as an issue at the later stage. Build friendly relations with developers, this will make them feel comfortable to share anything with you. Keep your issue reporting style positive; make sure it shouldn't it should not hurt someone’s feelings. Conclusion Of course, there’s a lot of confusion and misunderstanding going around, but we are professionals we don’t wait for some magic process to make everything run smoother. We are here to make things happen! After all, delivering a high-quality experience to the user should be at the paramount. TopCV survey reveals 3/4 professionals are unsure their job application will be approved by CV-screening software Posted in News archive on 08 Mar 2019 Company Profile TopCV View profile » According to new research from TopCV , the largest CV-writing service in the world, 75 per cent of UK job seekers are doubtful their CV will beat the ‘hiring bots’ - specialised software used by organisations to screen candidates’ CVs.This screening technology is also known as an applicant tracking system (ATS), and has become a crucial hurdle to clear for job seekers if they are to make it through to the interview stage. TopCV asked 13,267 UK job seekers: ‘On a scale of 1 to 5, how confident are you that your CV will make it past the ATS and then on to a human for review?’ Approximately only one in four respondents (24 per cent) were confident their CV would get past the dreaded hiring bots (selecting ‘very confident’ or ‘extremely confident’), and an additional 14 per cent had never heard of an applicant tracking system. These results indicate a clear lack of understanding of how ATS software works and of the steps candidates can take to ensure their CV safely passes through this computerised gatekeeper. Significantly, an estimated 98 per cent of large organisations use automated systems to scan CVs and eliminate the least-qualified candidates for a role. On average, a staggering 75 per cent of CVs are rejected by these ‘bots’ before the recruiter ever has a chance to see them. Amanda Augustine, career advice expert at TopCV, suggests job seekers keep the following in mind when writing their next CV: ‘An ATS scans and stores your CV in a digital database that recruiters can use to shortlist applications. Crucially, it bases its decisions on keywords, so candidates should study the job ad carefully to ensure their application reflects the recruiter’s requirements. Also, it’s important to ensure their CV doesn’t contain any “red flags” such as the use of images, unconventional formats or font types, or including employment dates that don’t add up, which might mean automatic removal from the selection pool’. ‘On average, recruiters receive 250 applications per job advertised , so it makes sense for them to adopt a time-saving ATS to help them sift through the mountains of CVs to find the perfect candidate quicker. However, the problem is that it means a great candidate may slip through the net if his or her CV doesn’t meet the ATS’s criteria, which is precisely why it is so important to know what the bots want to see’. To avoid being rejected by an ATS, Amanda recommends that job seekers stick to the following CV-writing principles: Include keywords – use the job ad as a starting point for these Format your CV correctly – Word document, left-aligned and image-free Avoid the fluff – stick to proven skills and qualifications Use clear, industry-standard job titles Include specific qualifications – make sure these are accurate Tidy up your social media – controversially, some ATS bots can also search social channels to find positive or negatives clues. Turn your settings to private to be safe. For more information on how to craft an ATS-friendly CV visit here .

With the cost of a bad hire being estimated at over 3 times salary, there are measurable losses when you get recruitment wrong. Couple this with high recruitment rates and a lack of skilled candidates, and finding the perfect match becomes even trickier. Posted in News archive on 08 Mar 2019 Company Profile ISV Online View profile » That’s the scenario business process outsourcing company, Tek Experts , found themselves in. That is until they introduced ISV’s recruitment testing . Kimberly Hannaford, Global Head of Talent Acquisition recently presented alongside ISV’s, Managing Director, Amanda Davies explaining how introducing testing had dramatically improved their recruitment process. Having used ISV’s candidate testing in her previous roles as a recruitment consultant, Kimberly introduced the ISV system to Tek Experts. The challenges that the talent acquisition team were previously encountering included limited science behind their recruitment process and wasted time on ‘maybe candidates’. Plus of course, the risk of hiring poorly skilled or unsuitable candidates. Introducing testing has allowed the team to quantify and highly calibrate their recruitment. It redefines what they are looking for in a new hire. Tek Experts are a global business, providing technology support from their centres in Vietnam, Bulgaria, the USA, Costa Rica and Nigeria to name a few. The fact that ISV is online, available 24/7 and they can choose from a library of tests works well for Tek Experts. They mix and match tests from the ISV library including customer services tests and the personality questionnaire . Plus, Kimberly and her team utilise the template builder tool to create their own specialised content. In a short space of time, the talent team saw noticeable and measurable positive effects from introducing recruitment testing. The Key Results: Hiring Criteria Redefined. Reduction in attrition or staff turnover by over 15% in both the USA and Costa Rica. Increased performance in Tek Expert’s end client’s KPIs, including the number of cases managed and customer satisfaction. Reduce time to productivity by giving the training team the candidate profile and shortcomings so they can tailor the orientation and training appropriately. The results have been so impressive for Tek Experts that they are rolling out ISV across all of their business lines, stating that it’s ‘HR partnership at its best.’ “We’re super happy with ISV and would really recommend them to anyone looking to introduce a testing provision in their workplace.” For a copy of the Perfect Match presentation featuring ISV and Tek Experts, download your copy of the slides here . Jill Strange, Vice President, Science Applications at Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions provider Infor looks at how technology is putting the ‘human’ back into human resources Posted in News archive on 08 Mar 2019 It is widely accepted that “traditional” HR serves as a place to go for help. Yet, as new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning continue to infiltrate the HR space and automate an array of processes, many employees fear that the “human” aspects are falling to the wayside, leaving employees alone to deal with cold user interfaces that offer facts without the personal human touch that gives HR its appeal. Despite these fears, leveraging the latest digital tools in the HR department to manage the workforce can actually help businesses, not only by impacting the bottom line, but by creating a more enjoyable, human experience. Here are three ways in which modern software solutions can support the optimization of a company’s talent and HR teams. Finding the Right Candidates for the Right Job With the rise of hiring analytics and big data, HR departments can more effectively and efficiently match a particular candidate with the job opening that requires his or her specific skill set. Just as Netflix’s algorithm is able to identify and suggest content based on a viewer’s past preferences, HR leaders can leverage cloud-based software solutions to access talent potential and determine the best fit for each role. The use of this data analysis will have a profound impact on the hiring process, yet it is up to companies and HR leaders to responsibly deploy this technology and identify the best candidates without bias. One way to ensure accuracy is to program the software to not account for irrelevant characteristics for the job, such as facial expressions or spoken word clusters. With the ethical deployment of these technologies, HR departments can greatly improve and speed up the job search process for both candidates and recruiters. Investing More Time and Energy in Talent Development By 2025, machines will perform more tasks than humans in the workplace, according to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs 2018 report. [1] Although developments in AI and automation could cause 75 million jobs to be displaced, another 133 million new jobs are projected to emerge, creating a total increase of 58 million new jobs over the next 5 years. To accommodate this massive workforce shift, no less than 54 percent of all employees will require significant reskilling and upskilling by 2020 [2] , which is why HR leaders need to put greater emphasis on developing their most important asset: their people. By automating several routine HR functions— whether it is employee onboarding, performance appraisals, timesheet tracking, benefits enrolment, or payroll, just to name a few—companies can free up their employees’ time, allowing HR specialists to focus more on the development of training programs to prepare their employees for the challenges they will face in the modern, AI-infused workforce. Creating a ‘Win-Win’ Strategy for Employees and Employers By implementing robust, digital human capital management tools, companies can help their HR leaders make data-informed decisions about their workforce. Cloud-based solutions that encourage regular check-ins and engagement reviews allow employees to provide continual feedback with their managers, whether it is identifying which project they most enjoyed or the tasks they detested. Ultimately, having greater visibility into the entire employee life cycle and the nuances of day-to-day activities allows companies to make better people decisions by placing the right people in the right departments and helping employee careers evolve as they grow. While it seems counter-intuitive, making HR departments more high-tech actually makes the HR experience more human. This is due, in part, to the fact that automating tasks allows for HR professionals to focus on meaningful conversations and interactions with employees. As emerging technologies such as AI, big data, and cloud technology continue to disrupt the workforce over the coming years, companies that leverage these offerings will greatly benefit their employees by matching them to the right roles, developing their skills over time, and giving them the personal attention they deserve. Human interaction will never become completely obsolete. In fact, it has become more important than ever—and technology is making it thrive.

And, while this can help many employers with their retention efforts, this does pose an issue for companies recruiting for new positions. “ Employers are currently under immense pressure to rethink their hiring strategies, which could be why we’ve seen an increase in salaries across the board. From our data we can see that Northern cities like Liverpool and Leeds are desperate to attract more candidates with higher salaries. This could be attributed to the fact that manufacturing is one of their prime industries and this is a sector that’s facing severe skills shortages right now.” Looking at the bigger picture, the findings show that the UK job market has remained largely resilient. Overall, the amount of candidates registering their CV on CV-Library was up by 5.6% year-on-year , suggest ing that while professionals may be feeling tentative about making their career move, many are still considering their prospects. What’s more, certain industries which should be vulnerable actually saw an increase in application numbers, including construction (up 13.1%), engineering (up 5.9%) and tourism (up 0.9%) and engineering (up 5.9%). Biggins concludes: “It’s certainly encouraging to note that key sectors have managed to stay relatively stable . What’s more, while it’s too early to be certain, it appears that Brexit hasn’t yet felt the devastating effects that have been speculated about. According to the Office for National Statistics , despite EU net migration being at its lowest in 10 years, net migration from outside the UK is the highest it’s been since 2004 , bringing a fresh source of talent to UK employers .”

Infor to Help Companies Leverage Data and Algorithms to Better Predict Performance, Engagement, and Turnover Posted in News archive on 04 Mar 2019 Infor , a leading provider of industry-specific cloud applications, today announced significant upgrades to its Talent Science solution. The newest version of Infor Talent Science will utilize machine learning technologies to power an overhauled candidate experience and provide greater prediction insights to employers. Infor Talent Science is a patented, cloud-based Predictive Talent Analytics™ solution that helps recruiters and hiring managers put the right people in the right positions to consistently achieve business objectives. By leveraging large quantities of behavioral and performance data, the application uses a data driven process to uncover what drives real success within a business, and then powers the selection of talent externally and internally by identifying candidates who share those same drivers. The newest iteration of Infor Talent Science will greatly increase the predictability and engagement of the software through cutting edge technology and an updated user interface. The portal also features the new Infor Personality Inventory, that cuts candidate assessment times in half. As part of this upgrade, Infor Talent Science will incorporate a new version of a machine learning-powered profile creation system to increase the precision and validity of the prediction models. Tapping into vast amounts of data, companies can create hiring benchmarks that leverage artificial intelligence to dynamically identify predictive models aimed at maximum validity to increase better hires, as well as be able to simulate hundreds of models across the candidate workforce to ensure continued validity, utility, and fairness. Additionally, these enhancements allow for data to be continuously compared and analyzed to ensure profiles are functioning at their maximum capacity. "Every business seeks to do more with less, and we are thrilled that we have achieved exactly that. With our new UI and platform, we are gathering the information we need from candidates in half the amount of time, driving a modern and frictionless engagement for the candidate and employee, and delivering significantly more value to our customers through increased prediction in our models," said Patrick McKittrick, vice president and general manager, Infor Talent Science. These enhancements will improve Infor Talent Science in a variety of ways. First, the new profile creation system leverages machine learning to enhance the predictive algorithms used in the Performance Profile creation system. Instead of creating a predictive model through an organization's data alone, now Infor Talent Science leverages the tens of millions of job candidates in the Infor Talent Science database to create a model that is more accurately calibrated to the global workforce, while still maintaining the high level of validity, high prediction of turnover, legal defensibility, and lack of bias critical to making HR decisions. Additionally, with unemployment at an all-time low, it is critical that job candidates be provided with a streamlined and modern application experience. The new assessment and user experience allows companies to collect the information that they need from candidates in a non-invasive manner, while also showcasing its employment brand. "These changes will greatly impact how candidates interact with our system as well as how we develop our predictive models in the future. Our models can dynamically adapt as conditions change within the workforce and the organization, which ultimately leads to lower turnover and higher performance, said Dr. Jill Strange, vice president, Infor HCM Science Applications. “With the enhanced candidate experience and targeted assessment, we are able to predict more with less and ensure candidates are satisfied and engaged throughout the hiring process.” For the past 17 years, Infor Talent Science has sought to match a candidate’s ‘Behavioral DNA’ with a company’s ‘Behavioral DNA’, resulting in better hires who stay longer, perform better, and thrive in the company culture. CV-Library study also reveals over half (53.4%) of Brits believe an apprenticeship is better for career prospects Posted in News archive on 04 Mar 2019 Company Profile CV-Library.co.uk View profile » A study conducted by CV-Library , the UK’s leading independent job board, has revealed that nearly three quarters (74.1%) of Brits would choose to do an apprenticeship over studying for a degree, with 53.4% believing that apprenticeships are better for a person’s career prospects. What’s more, the survey of 1,200 UK workers revealed that while 76.1% of Brits haven’t done an apprenticeship, 93.9% believe an apprenticeship can provide a worker with the skills needed to succeed in their career. Other key findings from the study include: A staggering 94.6% of professionals think apprenticeships can be helpful for bridging the skills gap ...But 91.2% think more can be done to promote these schemes, with 45.8% stating that it’s down to the government What’s more, 27.3% believe more information should be provided to students in education and 26.9% would like to see more businesses promoting these schemes at careers fairs. Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library , comments : “It’s not overly surprising that the public feels so strongly about the benefits of apprenticeships. Not only do they provide workers with qualifications, skills and industry knowledge, they also give individuals fantastic experience, so that they’re ready to contribute to your company right away! “ My advice to companies would be to seriously consider more applicants who have done an apprenticeship and to create more opportunities for them within your own firm. These schemes, as proved by the data, could help to bridge the skills gap, aid the economy and play a vital role in training a worker with specific and relevant knowledge of the sector.” The findings come just in time for the start of National Apprenticeship Week, an annual celebration dedicated to acknowledging the impact apprenticeships have on the individuals who do them, employers and the wider economy. Biggins continues : “In order to support and maintain this steady flow of people doing apprenticeships, we need to do what we can to enlighten them on these opportunities correctly. Advertising the opportunities your firm can provide at events such as careers fairs and guest talks to students is very important and could help significantly with your hiring efforts this year!” For the most up to date information on the UK job market and the latest recruitment trends, check out CV-Library’s Recruitment Insight pages .

Working with renowned corporate wellbeing expert Dr Cary Cooper, new research from Close Brothers reveals that employers are underestimating the impact of poor employee financial wellbeing in the workplace. Posted in Statistics and trends on 04 Mar 2019 88% of businesses believe their employees worry about money However, just 30% of employers think these money worries impact their performance at work Whereas three quarters (73%) of employees say that money worries impact them at work Working with renowned corporate wellbeing expert Dr Cary Cooper, new research from Close Brothers reveals that employers are underestimating the impact of poor employee financial wellbeing in the workplace. While 88% of employers think that their employees worry about money, just a third (30%) think money worries impact their staff while at work. However, the reality on the ground is very different. Three quarters (73%) of employees say that money worries impact them at work. Employers don’t just underestimate how many employees are affected by poor financial wellbeing in the workplace, they also underestimate the scale of the problem. In Close Brothers’ newly developed Financial Wellbeing Index, in which employees score their wellbeing in each of the seven areas of financial health, employees across the UK scored themselves an average of just 53.6 out of 100. Whereas, employers given the same test, estimated their employees’ financial wellbeing at 70.5 – nearly a third higher than the reality. This reality gap isn’t helpful for employee understanding and engagement, but it’s also restricting maximising their people strategies and impacting business performance. 48% of businesses do not have a financial wellbeing strategy, and of those that do, just 18% describe it as comprehensive. There are signs this is improving, however; 27% of employees plan to implement one within the next three years. Employers confirm that poor employee financial wellbeing is damaging their business revealing it has led to reduced productivity (22%), loss of talent (22%), and higher absences (19). Poor retirement planning is of particular concern with half of employers (48%) stating that fewer people are retiring from their organisation than they would like, and the same proportion saying the rate of retirement in their organisation is increasing their people costs. A further 45% say that the rate of retirement in their organisation is negatively impacting their succession plans. Conversely, the benefits of improving employee financial wellbeing are clear. Of those organisations that are already tackling the issue, nearly a third (30%) say that it helps improve employee productivity, a quarter (24%) say it assists in talent acquisition and retention, and 22% say that it helps to fulfil their strategic business objectives. Jeanette Makings, Head of Financial Education at Close Brothers said: “Financial wellbeing has been overlooked for too long, but business can no longer afford to be complacent. It is integral to unlocking employee performance, as well as attracting and retaining the best talent. But measurement is key as a one-size fits all strategy may seem easy to implement but is unlikely to be effective. In order to ensure that financial wellbeing strategies are impactful and cost effective, they need to be properly targeted. By pinpointing which of the seven areas of financial wellbeing are the biggest issues and which employees groups are really struggling, employers can ensure that a programme is tailored to employee needs and will provide the best support to get financial health on track.” Professor Sir Cary Cooper, a leading expert in workplace wellbeing, ALLIANCE Manchester Business School, University of Manchester said: “The benefits of providing advice and support for employees on their personal financial issues are huge. And from an employee perspective, the availability of financial wellbeing guidance in the workplace is becoming a ‘must have’ rather than a ‘nice to have’. By hyper-personalising employee support, businesses can then ensure that their financial wellbeing strategies have the necessary impact.”
