Duties Summary About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley´s performing arts center, and recreational facilities. Responsibilities Performs the full range of receptionist, recordkeeping, and miscellaneous clerical duties within the ambulatory setting. Completes request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work, and other requests. Maintains and monitors patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice. Enters, manipulates, and/or retrieves information and data from automated systems, such as, Composite Health Care System (CHCS) or the Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA). Provides information regarding the practice, clinic, and hospital policies, procedures, and locations to patients, family members, staff, etc. Receives patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. This position is an Inclement Weather Essential position. This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. This position requires the incumbent to work weekends, call duties and evenings. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Utilizing an automated system to schedule appointments; 2) Referring patients to appropriate section for appointments or treatment; 3) Communicating with patients to input personal data into an automated system such as Behavioral Health Data Portal (BHDP); 4) Using software applications such as Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) to check in patients; and 5) Utilizing medical terminology to transcribe entries into medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). or Education : Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcript(s) with your application.) or Combining Experience and Education : A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages and the total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. (You must attach a copy of your transcript(s). PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT (OFFICE AUTOMATION): This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Health Care Data Entry and Management Health Records Management Patient-focused Customer Service Safety and Quality Care Time in Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
